About Us
Four Years Later…
We met in Seattle in 2008. Somewhere between the gay guesthouses of Palm Springs and Fort Lauderdale, we began entertaining the idea of opening one ourselves. It seemed like a perfectly reasonable ambition. Naturally, we went off and became farmers instead.
On 20 acres in Washington State, we built a house and filled the place with alpacas, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys, rabbits, dogs, and cats. It was quite a life. Eventually, the winters won, and we headed south.
In 2019, we drove to Costa Rica and spent three months living off-grid on a friend's property. Then came the pandemic. We flew back to the United States, leaving our car behind. A year later, we returned to collect it and drove back through Mexico.
By then, San Miguel de Allende was already part of our story.
We first arrived in 2015 on a road trip with friends. On our very first night, we got engaged. We met a bar owner whose establishment was closed and somehow persuaded him to let us work behind the bar. He decided to organize an impromptu open-mic night. We had arrived in town as tourists and, within hours, were engaged and working in hospitality. Not a bad introduction to the city. We still call it “the night we worked the bar in San Miguel.”
We kept coming back. Eventually, we wanted to know what it was like to live here rather than simply visit. During an extended stay in 2021, we came across La Joya Azul, a house that had been a family home for 30 years.
We'd spent more than a decade imagining a guesthouse of our own. After the farm, the animals, the winters, the road trips, and the car temporarily residing in Costa Rica, we'd finally found the right property.
We bought it.
And here we are.
